About Us

Burrandowan Picnic Races is a the unique among picnic races - located only a few hours from Brisbane and the coast, yet located a million miles from the worries of the world.

Set among tall eucalypts 60km west of Kingaroy, the race day started in 1922 when soldier settlers wanted to gather together, and that is the tradition we continue today.

Young and old, families and young people - all gather trackside to see professional jockeys and sleek horses contest the five race program, while hats and high heels fill the catwalk for Fashions of the Field.

The day starts at 9am with the Clay Target Shoot, and seasoned campers set up their sites for the weekend (there is free camping for Saturday night).

The local tip is to arrive well before the first race so you can enjoy lunch at one of the many outlets, find a cool drink and have time to watch the horses parade.

Burrandowan is a day when legends are made - the horses who win the races, the friendships made, the memories enjoyed, and when the sun sets, the fun continues.

Dancing under the stars with live a band and the pit fired bbq where you cook your own steak.

When the soldier settlers established this race day, they knew we needed to take time out to connect with each other, to talk about the year that's been, to see old friends and make new ones, and our voluntary committee makes sure you can do that at Burrandowan Picnic Races every year.
